Fleur de Lys gallery opening: Trindolyn Beck

Olga Wunderlich, introduction for Trindolyn Beck

Opening, Friday, 24 August 2007
Dear friends and guests. Thank you all for coming. And I would like to introduce you to Trindolyn Beck, the artist of this show. I also would like to say just a few words. When I first met Trindolyn and saw his art. I was really stunned:
First I was so surprised about how contemporary it seemed to be. Second I felt a mixture of familiarity and uncanniness. And yes, third, I also felt, it has a lot to do with second life, although, if you look closer you can tell it is not made in Second Life. Trindolyn uses another 3-d program to do his art and is then taking photographs technically very much like we all do in Second Life. But I also feel it is very interesting that his photos remind me a lot of what is very common at the moment in photo art (sorry about that bad term). Artists build large settings of incredible stage design to do photographs in RL (and I do not want to name the artists right now, this should be about Trindolyn). So I feel it is very interesting that people nowadays use Hollywood stage design at a time that Hollywood goes into 3-d design of their sets and landscapes. However, Trindolyn is just doing that: he is constructing his scenes in a 3-d digital world, and he is depicting very ordinary, you could say realistic, life scenes. These pictures want to tell a story, with different kinds of sources. His inspiration goes from fairytales to novellas to scenes Trindolyn remembers from childhood. And yes, all that could also happen in Second Life. So I think, it is just wonderful to look at them and to get inspired.
Trindolyn, I thank you very much that you came here, made this art and this presentation for us. And I need also to thank Anderson my partner for all the help and support. Fable Sinatra will sing for us downstairs in the pavilion, I will let you know when it starts. Later we will have Tone Uriza djing Blues tunes. And please don't be shy to ask Trindolyn about his work, He is very open to tell you more about what he is doing. Thank you again, Trindolyn Beck!
